We Built a Free Schema Markup Checker: Here's What It Does

Our free Schema Markup Checker reads any public URL and shows you every structured-data type on the page, including nested entities that most quick tools miss, flags missing recommended properties, and catches invalid JSON-LD before Google does. No signup, no credits, no limits. This is the tool we use internally to audit our own markup, and it's now free for anyone.

Key takeaways
- Paste a URL and get a full inventory of every JSON-LD type on the page in seconds.
- It surfaces nested entities, like the author
Personinside an article, that top-level-only checkers skip. - It flags missing recommended properties (an Article with no author, a Product with no offers) and invalid JSON.
- It's free, requires no login, only fetches public pages, and stores nothing.
Why we built it
Most quick schema checks tell you the top-level type and stop there, which hides the properties that actually decide rich-result eligibility. We kept running our own pages through validators that either required a login, capped usage, or only reported the outermost @type and skipped everything nested inside it. For an article, the outermost type is BlogPosting, but the part that matters for E-E-A-T, the author Person, is nested one level down, and a shallow checker never shows whether it's complete. So we built the checker we actually wanted and made it public.
Paste a URL, get the full picture
Enter any page URL and the tool fetches it server-side, extracts all JSON-LD, and lays out what it found. No account, no credit card, no daily limit.

Within a second or two you get a summary and a breakdown of every schema block on the page:

What it checks
The checker does four things a shallow validator doesn't.
- Every type, including nested ones. It flattens
@graphand recurses into nested objects, so a page'sauthorPerson, a product'sOffer, or an organization's details all show up as their own entries, not buried invisibly inside the parent. In the screenshot above,Personappears as its own type because the tool looked inside the article, exactly where author markup lives. - Missing-property warnings. For the common types, Article, Product, Organization, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList, Person, LocalBusiness, Review and more, it checks for the recommended properties and flags what's absent, so you can see at a glance that, say, your Article is missing
datePublished. - Invalid-JSON detection. A single malformed JSON-LD block is silently ignored by search engines. The checker parses each block and marks any that won't parse, so you catch the break instead of wondering why your rich result never appeared.
- Microdata and RDFa detection. JSON-LD is Google's preferred format and what we validate in depth, but the tool also flags legacy microdata and RDFa on the page so you know the full picture of what search engines can read.
You can expand any block to read its raw JSON, and the whole thing runs without an account.
Built to be safe and private
Because the tool fetches URLs you give it, we hardened it deliberately. It only fetches public http(s) pages, blocks internal and private addresses (so it can't be pointed at internal networks or cloud metadata endpoints), caps response size and redirects, and times out fast. It stores nothing, no history of what you check is kept. It's also rate-limited and bot-gated so it stays fast and free for everyone.
How to use it
- Open the Schema Markup Checker.
- Paste the URL of any page, your own or a competitor's, and click Check schema.
- Read the summary, scan the type badges, and open any block to see its fields, warnings, or raw JSON. Fix whatever's flagged, then re-check.
An honest note on schema and AI
Schema markup helps Google understand your page and earn rich results; it is not a shortcut to being cited by AI. Google states plainly that structured data isn't required for its AI features, and large studies have found schema doesn't materially change how often AI assistants cite a page. So use this tool to tidy up rich-result eligibility and entity clarity, which are real wins, but if your goal is AI visibility, that comes from being quotable and retrievable, and earning citations from trusted sources, not from more markup.
Frequently asked questions
Is the schema checker really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no daily credit limit. It's the same tool we use to audit our own pages.
How is it different from Google's Rich Results Test?
Google's test focuses on a specific set of rich-result features. Ours gives you a fast, complete inventory of every schema type on the page, including nested entities, plus missing-property warnings, with no login. For final rich-result eligibility, still confirm in Google's own test, the two are complementary.
Does it validate nested schema like author?
Yes, and that's the main reason we built it. It recurses into nested objects, so the author Person inside an article, or an Offer inside a product, appears as its own entry rather than being hidden inside the parent type.
Will it check a competitor's page?
Yes. It works on any public URL, so you can see exactly what structured data a competitor ships and where their markup has gaps.
Does schema markup help me rank in AI search?
Not directly. Treat schema as a Google rich-results and entity-clarity play. AI visibility is a separate job, covered in our GEO playbook.
What is schema markup?
Schema markup (structured data) is code, usually written in JSON-LD, that labels the content on a page - an FAQ, a product, an article, a review - so search engines and AI assistants can understand it and show rich results. It doesn't directly boost rankings, but it makes pages eligible for richer SERP features and easier for AI to cite. Paste any URL into the checker above to see what a page declares, or use a schema markup generator to create it.
Try it
Point it at your most important page and see what search engines actually read: Schema Markup Checker. And once your markup is clean, remember it's only half the picture, authority is the other half. A free backlink gap audit shows which trusted sources link to your competitors but not yet to you.
